The Mood

Create an Atmosphere Worth Lingering

The most memorable entertaining spaces are rarely the most expensive, but the most personal. A collection of items that reflect expressions of where you’ve been and what has captured your imagination over time - vintage crystal glasses, weathered hardcover, a favorite artwork, or an objet d’art discovered while traveling - can shape an atmosphere unlike any professionally designed room. Together they become a visual record of curiosity, creating a vibe worth lingering.

The Backdrop

A Midnight Canvas of Fruit, Flora & Wonder

Every room tells a story, and wallpaper can often serve as its opening chapter. The shelves, books, and collected objects that surround it become the pages that follow.

The dramatic Figs & Strawberries pattern from Catherine Marion's Folklore & Flora collection for Milton & King set the stage for this entire mood. Saturated figs, delicate blossoms, winding stems, and rich forest-green leaves form a backdrop that feels both romantic and slightly mysterious. The eye is drawn in with each glance, revealing intricate details that turn an ordinary wall into a part of the experience itself. Whether applied behind a bar shelf, around a dining nook, or enveloping an entire room, the pattern instantly adds character. It invites exploration and adds depth to even the simplest collection of glassware and spirits. In many ways, it becomes a conversation piece before a single bottle is uncorked.

The Pour

Rediscovering Brandy
For this mood, Sainte Louise French Brandy took center stage. Produced in the Cognac region of Charente and matured in French oak, Sainte Louise offers layers of vanilla, leather, raisin, and fig create an elegantly harmonious sip – whether sipped neat or in a brandy-based cocktail.

A spirit long overshadowed by whiskey, brandy serves as an excellent spirit for experimentation adding depth when substituted for whiskey or cognac to classic cocktails. Beyond that, brandy enhances sauces and pâtés, and adds warmth to fruit desserts. Few spirits transition so seamlessly from bar cart to the dining table. This versatility is precisely what makes it worth rediscovering.

From Bar Cart to Table

During our exploration, we found ourselves reaching for Sainte Louise to fold into a rustic chicken liver pâté for added warmth and depth without overpowering the richness of the dish. It also proved particularly elegant in a mushroom and brandy cream sauce served over roasted chicken, where the spirit's subtle notes of fig and oak created remarkable complexity. For dessert, Brandy-poached pears in a Frangipane Tart became an understated yet memorable finale. Sainte Louise Brandy proved itself a versatile spirit worth keeping within reach.

The Glassware

Brandy has range, and the glass should follow its mood. A snifter invites a slower pour — warm, aromatic, and contemplative. A coupe turns it toward cocktail hour, all polish and drama. A highball lets it brighten with bubbles, while a rocks glass keeps it grounded, familiar, and quietly handsome.

The traditional snifter remains the definitive vessel for enjoying brandy neat, shaping the experience long before the first sip. Served neat in a stemmed snifter, the bowl of the glass is designed to allow aromatic concentration while the spirit gradually warms in the hand, revealing layers that might otherwise go unnoticed.

We recreated a brandy-based French 75 and upon learning it was the original version, we chose the Reserve Milo Crystal Highball as the perfect companion. It’s clean lines allow the cocktail’s effervescence to take center stage. Crystal highballs have a way of transforming even the simplest pour into a more elevated experience, bringing a sense of occasion to every sip.

A stylish rocks glass can elevate the experience for the Old Fashioned loyalist, or for simply enjoying a pour over a large rock. We were immediately impressed with the Reserve Milo Crystal Rocks set, whose weight and clarity elevated a Brandy-based Old Fashioned into something that felt equal parts classic and contemporary. Together with the matching highballs, they create an elegant, curated collection.

The Perfect Pour

In the end, the quiet charm of Sainte Louise Brandy reminded us that the perfect pour is often waiting to be rediscovered. Poured neat, stirred into a classic, or splashed into culinary dishes, it brings warmth and depth without the heaviness. In the right setting, it encourages a deeper appreciation for the objects, flavors and conversations that surround it. It’s the Society’s opinion that the old-world spirit deserves renewed attention – and is entirely worth a revival.
